There is significant pressure on IT to implement a cloud strategy, pressure that stems from competitive demands and the needs of the business user. Every year, the business must deliver new and differentiated products or services to ensure a better user experience and expand its own market position. This often requires new cloud services that deliver greater agility, since these new systems of engagement aren't always available through the business' own enterprise IT department. But that doesn't mean they're out of reach for the business user. Today there's an array of minimal-to-no-cost cloud services available with no long-term commitment, and business users can easily circumvent IT to get their job done better and faster with this shadow set of capabilities. The problem: Most business users don't know how to do this safely. To remain relevant, IT must get in front of the existing cloud use and provide these solutions with the appropriate guardrails.
